Associate / WASHINGTON, D.C.

Mary Catherine Amerine graduated from William & Mary Law School, cum laude, in 2017, where she served as an Articles Editor for the Business Law Review, and was vice president of the Student Intellectual Property Society. She was also a member of the William & Mary Moot Court Team, winning the “Best Advocate” award at the Herbert Wechsler National Criminal Moot Court Competition.

Mary Catherine’s interest in literature and the arts sparked her passion for copyright law, which she pursued at William & Mary Law School. Her paper Wrestling over Republication Rights: Who Owns the Copyright of Interviews?, written during her second year as a member of the Business Law Review, was selected as the winner of two legal writing competitions, the Virginia State Bar Intellectual Property Section writing competition, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Robert C. Watson Award.

Her second paper, about the application of the de minimis copyright infringement exception to music sampling, was one of the finalists in the Grammy Foundation’s Entertainment Law Initiative writing competition, and the winner of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association’s Hon. William C. Conner writing award.

Mary Catherine graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from The Catholic University of America, with a bachelor’s degree in English and minors in Anthropology and Philosophy in 2014.
