Scott Abeles

Scott Abeles is a partner in Gerard Fox Law’s Washington, DC office. He spent more than a decade at Kirkland & Ellis and Proskauer Rose, two top-ranked international law firms. He graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, and has been named a Washington, D.C. “Super Lawyer” (top 5%) by Thompson Reuters.

Mr. Abeles has tried cases and argued appeals all over the country. His experience spans some of the most iconic clients and cases of recent years.

For example, Mr. Abeles’ work includes:

  • For Chrysler, putting on the bulk of its affirmative case in a closely-watched antitrust dispute, with the jury delivering a complete victory to Chrysler after less than a day of deliberation.
  • For GSK, delivering the winning argument in its challenge to a set of rules enacted by the Patent and Trademark Office, with Managing Intellectual Property declaring the case 2009’s “Patent Case of the Year.”
  • For a coalition of Middle Eastern professionals, serving as lead counsel in a civil rights claim and earning the 2008 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights.
  • For Nobel Prize winning economists, serving as Counsel of Record in the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark “Greenhouse Gases” case.
  • For Washington Gas, in a long-running dispute with its regulator, arguing before the District of Columbia’s highest court, obtaining reversal of the fine imposed by the trial court, and affirmance of WGL’s counterclaim.

Mr. Abeles has particularly deep experience with antitrust matters.  He has represented clients in monopolization, restraint of trade, and price discrimination cases, including the defense of class-actions seeking billions of dollars. He sits on the Editorial Board for Law 360: Competition, has drafted chapters of several antitrust treatises, published numerous articles, and spoken at many programs.
