Victor Sapphire concentrates his practice in the trade identity field, working on matters related to trademark, copyright, unfair competition, trade secrets and Internet law. He routinely handles licensing, prosecution, litigation and transactions.
Mr. Sapphire regularly counsels clients on branding strategy and enforcement, U.S. and foreign trademark clearance and prosecution matters, copyright issues and Internet privacy concerns. He is highly experienced in the areas of trade dress and domain name counseling and litigation, including infringement litigation in federal court, trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and its foreign equivalents, and domain name infringement actions under the ICANN Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy. Mr. Sapphire works with clients in a broad range of industries including consumer products, entertainment and media, financial services, food and beverages, furniture, health care, hospitality, industrial design, Internet, specialty retail, technology, and wearing apparel. He has managed the strategy, transaction and intellectual property portfolios for a number of clients including large independent television production companies, film and video postproduction companies, and a large entertainment company for which he also provided end-to-end management of IP aspects of its corporate-wide rebranding effort. Mr. Sapphire also has extensive experience working on behalf of major recording artists, defending against IP-related claims and securing TRO’s and permanent injunctions against defendants attempting to infringe on recording artists’ ownership rights, including obtaining injunctions against counterfeiters. He is also an accomplished recording engineer and a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
Mr. Sapphire earned his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and his M.B.A. from Northwestern University J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management (with a concentration in Marketing), concurrently. While in law school, he was a member of the Moot Court (Top Five Brief, Best Speaker and Quarterfinal Rounds), Chairman of the Entertainment Law Society, and a member of the Entertainment Media Business Association. He received his B.A. in Music with a concentration in engineering and production, cum laude, from California State University.
